Sleepers Union

With Dragstrip and Addendum, at Bar Bodega Wellington October 24th 2003

Arriving at a gig at 9:30pm and then having to wait 2 hours before the bands start is always a bit hard to keep enthusiasm for, but tonight, the headliners were worth the delay.

The opening act, a soloist, by the name of Dragstrip, was quite straining. Almost putting me off completely. He spoke over rambling guitar in an angst-ridden tone trying to create a storyteller style. It just didn’t work.

Two Lane Blacktop, Fur Patrol, and Pacifier at The Starlight Ballroom Wellington August 2003

Pacifier’s Everything Tour.

Two Lane Blacktop, Fur Patrol, and Pacifier at The Starlight Ballroom Wellington August 30th 2003

The opening band of the night, Two Lane Blacktop, certainly let the crowd become aware of their presence with roaring loud guitars, which shocked everyone standing within a 5-meter radius of the speaker stack. A small but steady following of the band had turned up in their support. The rest of the crowd, quite obviously turned up to see the other two acts of the night and simply couldn’t care less.

The Hiss Explosion, Substandard, Into the Void, The International Telepaths, Idols of Eve at Creation Feb 2004

The Hiss Explosion, Substandard, Into the Void, The International Telepaths, Idols of Eve, Creation, Christchurch Feb 6th 2004

The Mint Chicks, Die! Die!Die! at The Wunderbar/ Dux de Lux Jan 2004

The Mint Chicks, Die! Die!Die! at The Wunderbar Christchurch Jan 29th 2004
and The Mint Chicks, Die! Die!Die! at The Dux Christchurch Jan 30th 2004

Two nights? One review? heh I think I can do it. Although, that said the two nights to me were wildly different. I mean you can’t get two “intimate” venues that are more opposite. The wunderbar always attracts an eclectic crowd (perhaps its just the location), and At this gig, I don’t think the crowd knew quite what to expect from these two auckland based bands.
