Good Morning 28

July 24th, 2010

Yesterday I partook in a great deal of celebratory birthday activity.

Some of my friends are awesome.
Meg is amazing. She really is, I got a birthday (cup) cake and she’s lending me a reasonable amount of crockery so I can have stuff while I’m here.

Marie and Simon bought me earrings which are really cute. I love the little bow ones and button ones. So adorable. Hahah. I sound so girly.

Anyway, busy day ahead today. Going to see a play called Ghost Stories on the West End tonight.

The last Monday of 27

Today I received a package from my mum. A nice wee something for my birthday I guess.

My hand is half asleep. Really the rest of me should be too.
I don’t know quite why I’m bothering with an update, outside of the fact I just finished watching the new episode of Outrageous Fortune. Gosh that series really is quite good.

I think I’m going to try and make a mix tape at some point. I’ve been building playlists in Spotify, I just now need to turn those into something.

London has been pretty hot. Today was another near 30 degree day. Its going to turn a bit for the end of the week though. Not so cool. I guess its good I organised drinks in a pub near Oxford Circus.

I am working on a plan for a couple of craft projects. I will post them here soon.

One thing I need to do is post my new dress making one, inspired by the dress a day blog.

Oh and I’ll put up a picture of the Dan Hiller I am now the owner of. God I love investing in art, even when I have no money for it!

Hey, welcome back to the Fran show.

So I finally have Internet sorted in my flat. My flat is amazing. its a warehouse in North London… This might mean I have to become an Arsenal or Tottenham fan. I live with 11 people. My room has a mezzanine floor!

I am having a great/awful time in London. Various reasons for all of this. The good is the people I’ve met, the place I’m currently staying, the cool galleries, and basically just walking around is awesome.
The bad is the expensive price of breathing in this city, the sweaty tube rides, the job, the horrible demise of my parents marriage from so far away but still getting to see the whole thing played out, the people I miss back home, not having people who will come and do all the things I want… oh and I think my health is going a bit downhill at the moment.

Lets brighten this up with some photos of the new place huh?

Ok so not that exciting, but it is my room. But not the Mezzanine. I can’t find the photo I took of that in the daylight.

Remember that weekend I went to Memphis?

Summer weather has gone to shit with the first day of June. It’s meant to be Summer London!
Hah. Anyway, we had brilliant weather over the last week or so.

Its meant to only be poos for a few days.

I took photos and when the internet will stop being craptacular, I will post sunny Londoness.

So I have a new job.

I’m listening to the Flaming Lips doing Pink Floyd’s Dark side of the Moon. Its quite cool.

I spent a fair bit of time today also listening to the new Band of Horses, Broken Social Scene and some of The Low Anthem- my SXSW discovery… and uhh…. new Eels, and Michigan by Sufjan Stevens.

This is one of the good things about my new job.

I suggest if you’re after a mellow album to wake up/fall asleep to, Sufjan is the way to go.

Out Of Kilter

May 24th, 2010

A while ago I did a couple of posts of old photos and wrote a bit about the memories that they conjured up.
I have a few more in hiding to write about at some point, but today I will focus on the mid 00’s and Out Of Kilter.

It was a label/event thing started by one of my best friends in the whole world Will Edmonds.
Its funny, because a lot of the people I admire most, and are some of my closest friends I met because of OOK.

I would go into the depths of it all but you can read that here:
http://www.outofkilter.net/
This morning Will started writing about the history of OOK, and hopefully will keep updating as a result of this important piece of music history in Chch.

stolen from the OOK board~
I wrote an article in 2007 about Will and OOK. Its funny how things have come full circle again and he is still putting on AA shows under Tally Ho!

If you want to read the article go here:
http://puddle.net.nz/node/25
It was published in A Low Hum Magazine way back then.

T’Nealle wrote an awesome post about this too.
They might have been 15, and I was like 22? But its still some of the best memories ever.

so yeah.
Will= Super fucking amazing

Nick, Josh, T’Nealle, Eamonn, Melinda, Matt, Joe, Darian, Charlie, James… man, this list could go forever of the people I met BECAUSE of OOK.

It also makes me sad that Creation closed

I just keep reminding myself I did this for the challenge, because life in Christchurch was just floating along. It seems that London is a challenge for everyone.
I wish it wasn’t so hard.

Anyway, today’s lack of motivation comes from my wearing of my pimp dressing gown and thinking about the fact I’m going to see Janet Jackson tonight, and Eric Idle. Yes, those are tickets to the Graham Norton show I have in front of me.
