this morning my ipod is trying to tell me I should listen to Tom Waits.
Its not really Monday morning music.
I am exhausted and I had plenty of sleep. I struggled with this morning much more than other Monday mornings. At least I was only 5 minutes late for work. I am proud at least that I managed to consume some breakfast.
The weekend was filled with baking- 3 feijoa cakes, 2 apple and white chocolate cakes. I was also going to make some friands but I figured we should probably eat what we baked first. Matt, James and Fionn had dinner with the cabin last night. I cooked a lamb curry and Netta made amazing vegetarian pizza. I accidentally consumed a chilli on one of the pizza’s and felt very uncomfortable instantly. It was stupidly hot. They laughed, because they thought the chillies were lovely. I am a complete pussy when it comes to hot food. I thought my curry had a kick to it, but was probably mild by their standards.
Hmm, also working backwards through my weekend, Sunday afternoon I went to Sarah’s to comfort her because she was feeling down. I brought her chocolate éclairs. I knew they would make her smile. It just makes me realise how incredibly awesome my friendship is with Sarah, (Nike and Caroline too). It felt nice to know the right things to say to someone when they aren’t feeling up to facing the world.
Sunday morning I woke up and felt like making French toast so I did. I’m not a big bread eater, but I love French toast. It kind of reminded me of all those times in high school hanging with Lauren in her kitchen making French toast instead of going to class. It was always the perfect cure to a night at Lichfield St.
Saturday Night? Well first up was the Thought Creature all ages show. I bought Eamonn a burger from a fish and chip shop opposite HQ, and then we wandered back to set up our bit for the show. Alice who looks after thought creature had done most of the work and really we were only selling drinks- which went really well.
I’m a bit tired of having to take alcohol off kids at shows. Its kind of funny telling them off, but it gets weary. Netta kind of flipped a bit and decided she just can’t do it anymore, which is annoying because she’s really good at telling kids not to be crap and that she’s going to kick them out and call their parents.
I stood outside with Matt during Thought Creature, basically I’d had enough telling people off. I just wish we didn’t have to do that, ALL the time. I’m sure kids love having shows to go to, they really are spoilt for choice in Christchurch, but they don’t realise how hard it is for us to put on these events if they’re all outside getting wasted in the car park. It really compromises our position and we don’t want to have to stop doing it because they’re making it too hard for a small group of people to control. Hopefully our meeting with CPH should be positive. Netta is going to concentrate on the admin for now, she doesn’t want to put on shows. Eamonn is kind of in the same boat of apathy towards shows. I really still want to do them, its just my life is really busy as it is. I hope we get some more people keen to help at Chartfest.
After Thought Creature, Netta and I felt like a drink so we went to meet Mr. O at the Bicycle Thief. I adore hanging out with Mr. O, the conversation is always good, and the drinks are always the best. I guess having known him since I was 13 and the past that we’ve shared makes it feel really special when we hang out, on the few yearly occasions that we do. A few martinis later, it was announced we were going to watch rugby at winnies. I felt some relief that Winnies was closed, but alas we carried on through the city to the Excelsior to catch “the game”.
The funny thing is the last time I watched a rugby match on the TV, I was in the same bar, 9 years earlier, with Mr. O. That night I twisted my ankle on the stairs of Lichfield St, and Mr O had bribed the ice delivery man who was taking stuff to the Honey Pot for a bag of it for my ankle. It turns out I tore something quite bad from a simple fall. Those stairs were always brutal when falling on them.
Anyway, I was a bit drunk and actually got quite into the game. Then Netta came to rescue me, with Benet, Chris, and Jared and we met up with Mattatat and his band mates at Dennys. The quality late night feast. This was actually pre arranged ages ago as an event to mourn the loss of the lumberjack slam from the menu.
Denny’s food isn’t actually any good. Its just the 2am place to go get curly fries.
