So today I made a mad trek out to Kew and then Burwood to find blood oranges. This is because I want to make Joff blood orange sorbet as part of my culinary birthday present to him. It took a ridiculously long tram ride, well one ridiculously long one because of replacement bus services, and the other because 17km is actually a stupid distance when traveling on a tram to an outer suburb.<\/p>\n

The worst part was the realisation that Burwood\/Camberwell isn’t actually that far out in the grand scheme of Melbourne.<\/p>\n

Anyway, through late last night’s baking, I was on twitter also following @Nickjfrost <\/a>– the wonderful actor from Spaced, Shaun of the Dead etc… who was rather inspiring in his own baking. From the photos he was tweeting I saw his glorious looking baked cheesecake.<\/p>\n

Having always wanted to try and make my own baked cheesecake I tweeted Mr. Frost asking for the recipe. Anyone who knows me well knows how I feel about cheesecake, thus my response to tweet what is essentially a stranger demanding a recipe for their New York Baked Cheesecake.<\/p>\n

Anyway, proving my faith in Nick Frost being awesome, he replied directing me to the BBC Food website<\/a> and their American Baked Cheesecake recipe<\/a>.\u00a0 So tonight, I made 2 trips to the supermarket downstairs, after already having been to Leo’s Supermarket in Kew and Coles in Burwood to acquire the ingredients so I too could try making my first ever baked cheesecake.<\/p>\n

Its currently cooling on the bench. In a while I’ll post a picture of mine when it’s set. Mine was made with Cointreau instead of burbon cause we don’t have any in the house. I’d already pretty much blown my budget on other baking supplies.<\/p>\n
